8 killed in Bandarban gunfight

At least eight people were killed in a gunfight between two local armed groups in the Khamtangpara area under Rowangchhari upazila here.

Police recovered the bodies from the spot this afternoon.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Rowangchhari police station, Abdul Mannan, said they found the bodies in uniforms. However, their identities could not be known immediately.

Rowangchhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Khorshed Alam said that the firing took place between members of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) and the UPDF in Khamtang para of Rowangchhari upazila of the district on Thursday evening, leaving eight people dead.

The UNO also said that 200 local residents, who left the area in fear of further clash, have taken shelter in Ruma Government High School and 70 people have taken shelter in Ruma Bom Community Centre.

Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam said police recovered eight bodies from the spot and sent those to Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy
