UP polls: campaign in Jamalpur Sadar, Sarishabari upazilas begin

Candidates after getting electoral symbols

have started campaign in the first phase of Upazila Parishad (UP) Election in

Jamalpur Sadar and Sarishabari upazilas of the district yesterday.

According to the Returning Officer’s Office, seven candidates for two

chairman posts, five for two vice-chairman posts and four candidates for two

woman vice-chairman posts are contesting in these two UP elections.

In Jamalpur Sadar upazila, Bizan Kumar Chanda (motorcycle symbol), Advocate

Md Hafizur Rahman Swapon (cup-saucer), Mohammad Abul Hossain (pineapple), Md

Asaduzzaman Akanda Babu (inkpot-pen) and Mohammad Ahsanul Islam (horse) are

contesting for chairman post while Akhtaruzzaman, Md Nazmul Hossain and Md

Saidur Rahman are in the race for vice-chairman post. Naznin Akhter and

Mohasina Mousumi are contesting for woman vice-chairman post in the upazila.

In Sarishabari upazila, Md Rafiqul Islam (pineapple) and Md Taleb Uddin

(inkpot-pen) are contesting for chairman post while Al Amin and Md Golam-

mostafa
are contesting for vice-chairman post. Mst Zeli Aktar and Mst Mahmuda

Khatun are in the race for woman vice-chairman post in the upazila.

Election Office said a total of 5,51,455 voters in Jamalpur sadar upazila and

2,93,918 voters in Sarishabari upazila will franchise their voting rights on

May 8 UP polls.
