Community clinics help reach healthcare at people’s doorsteps: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said the government has reached healthcare services at the doorsteps of people through community clinics, introduced with the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"Huge development has taken place in the health sector despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war," he said.

The health minister was speaking at a meeting with the reporters organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) at its Sagar-Runi Auditorium.

DRU President Mursalin Nomani presided over the meeting and general secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel moderated it.

The minister said the incumbent government first had brought the COVID-19 vaccine into the country.

Mentioning that community clinics help improve the country`s dignity in the world, he said health sector will be modernised across the country and the government is giving healthcare services almost free to the countrymen.

The government has set up eight medical colleges in the country and eight hospitals will be set up in eight divisional cities, he added.

Besides, the government appointed 15,000 doctors, 20,000 nurses and other workers in hospitals across the country, Zahid Maleque added.

Replying to a question, he said Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) are important hospitals and if any irregularity is detected there, action will be taken accordingly.

The health minister said the government has prepared a Taka 1,500 crore project to digitise the entire health sector.

He said the project has been sent to the Planning Commission for approval.

"Health cards will be given to everyone under this project.... One can get all kinds of healthcare using this card," he added.

Number of foreign-treatment seekers declining: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said the numbers of local patients who usually prefers to take treatment abroad, are now declining as Taka 30,000 crore are being spent for treatment purpose annually.

The health minister said this while responding to a query made by M Abdul Latif of Chattogram-11 at the question-answer session tabled at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

To modernize the treatment facilities, the minister said the government has taken initiatives for imparting training to the physicians at home and abroad apart from setting up different specialized hospitals at different spheres.

Even modern medical treatment facilities are being provided locally for other diseases including the non-communicable diseases through the specialized physicians, he told the parliament.

As a result, the number of foreign treatment seekers has already been declined over the years.

Bangladesh reports zero Covid-19 death, 103 positive cases

Bangladesh today recorded zero Covid-19 death

while it reported 103 coronavirus positive cases.

"Bangladesh reported 8.21 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 1,255 samples were tested during the last 24 hours," a daily statement of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said here.

During the period, the combined figure of coronavirus infection in Dhaka

district and the capital is 98 while zero Covid-19 death was reported

here.

The official tally showed that the virus killed a total of 29,451 people and infected 20,4,00,14 so far.

The recovery count rose to 20,064,75 after another four patients were

discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the last 24 hours, the

statement added.

From the beginning of the pandemic, 98.36 percent Covid-19 patients

recovered among the infected people while 1.44 percent died, the DGHS

statistics showed.

Among the 29,451 fatalities, 12,949 occurred in Dhaka, 5,906 in Chattogram, 2,163 in Rajshahi, 3,736 in Khulna, 993 in Barishal, 1,364 in Sylhet, 1,429 in Rangpur and 911 in Mymensingh divisions.
