Number of foreign-treatment seekers declining: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said the numbers of local patients who usually prefers to take treatment abroad, are now declining as Taka 30,000 crore are being spent for treatment purpose annually.

The health minister said this while responding to a query made by M Abdul Latif of Chattogram-11 at the question-answer session tabled at the Jatiya Sangsad here with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

To modernize the treatment facilities, the minister said the government has taken initiatives for imparting training to the physicians at home and abroad apart from setting up different specialized hospitals at different spheres.

Even modern medical treatment facilities are being provided locally for other diseases including the non-communicable diseases through the specialized physicians, he told the parliament.

As a result, the number of foreign treatment seekers has already been declined over the years.
