Vibrant Baishakhi Shobhajatra Marks Bengali New Year in Bagerhat

Bagerhat: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year 1433, was celebrated in Bagerhat with a ‘Baishakhi Shobhajatra’ and cultural programs. The event was organized by the district administration and the District Shishu Academy, with the theme “Harmony of the New Year, Revival of Democracy.”



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day commenced with a procession led by Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten, starting from Bagerhat Stadium at 8 am. The procession traveled through Railway Road, Khanjahan Ali area, and other major streets, concluding at the Zilla Parishad auditorium premises.



Following the procession, the Baishakhi fair’s opening ceremony took place. Notable attendees included Bagerhat-4 constituency MP Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad, Superintendent of Police Md. Hasan Chowdhury, and other senior government officials. A discussion meeting was held at Bagerhat Shishu Academy, chaired by Officer of Shishu Academy Asaduzzaman.



Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten participated in the program and distributed prizes to winners of essay and painting competitions. A cultural program was also organized for the occasion.



Simultaneously, Bagerhat District BNP is preparing to hold a separate rally in the afternoon from the Central Shaheed Minar to commemorate the celebrations. Additionally, various tourist attractions in the district, including Municipal Park, Sundarban Resort Center, Chandra Mahal, and Bagerhat Shatgombuj Museum, will be accessible to visitors free of charge from 10 am to 5 pm.
