Woman’s half-decomposed body recovered from Faridpur home; mother, sister detained

Police recovered the half-decomposed body of a woman from a home in the West Khabaspur Miapara area of Faridpur town on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Jhuma Akter, 35, the elder daughter of late Abdul Ahad Talukder of the area.

As a bad smell started spreading around from her room, local residents called the National Emergency Service 999.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the half-decomposed body under the cot of a tin-shed house around 11am, said M A Jalil, officer-in-charge (OC) of Faridpur Kotwali police station.

Later, the body was sent to Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Suman Ranjan Sarkar, additional superintendent of Faridpur police (Sadar Circle), said the dead body was approximately seven days old. Even after the bad smell came out, Jhuma's mother and sister did not look into the matter and lived in that house like before. He said that when the police tried to enter that room of the house, Jhuma's mother tried to obstruct them.

Quoting local residents, Suman Ranjan said that the deceased's mother and a sister were involved in anti-social activities and Jhuma did not like that and protested them.

Being suspicious, police detained Jhuma's mother Monowara Begum, 55, and younger sister Suma Akhter, 27, for preliminary interrogation, said the OC.

However, the exact cause of death will be known after getting the autopsy report.

A case will be lodged in this regard, added the OC.
