Vegetable for making healthy nation: PM

DHAKA, Jan 04, 2017 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all to create awareness about vegetable and nutrition for making a healthy nation.

In a message on the eve of the National Vegetable Fair-2017, she said the theme of the fair "Sushtha Sabal Sashtha Chan, Beshi Beshi Sobji Khan" (eat more vegetables for sound health) as time befitting.

The prime minister said that Bangladesh is now a self-reliant nation which is exporting food by meeting the country's demand.

"Our new challenge is to attain nutrition security and vegetable can play an important role to meet the demand of nutrition," she said.

Sheikh Hasina said Awami League government has relentlessly working for agriculture development by undertaking different measures for overall development of agriculture.

Reducing prices of all agriculture products, including fertilizer and seeds, loan distribution among the farmers at easy condition while cash incentives is being given by opening bank account at Taka 10.

She said our scientists are innovating species of different types of vegetables appropriate for all the season and techniques to make the trend sustainable.

The prime minister said, Our efforts would be continued to make a hunger and poverty free meritorious nation.

She expressed the hope that the National Vegetable Fair-2017 will help raise awareness among the people about cultivation of vegetables and nutrition.
