UP Chairman AL Leader Held in Sajjad Murder Case.

Rangpur: Police today arrested Chairman and Gangachara Sadar union parishad and Awami League (AL) leader Mazharul Islam Lebu in the vegetable seller Sajjad Hossain murder case. “A police team arrested Mazharul Islam Lebu from Gangachara Sadar union parishad premises today,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangachara model police station Mohammad Al Imran told reporters.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, arrested Lebu is an accused in the murder case of vegetable vendor Sajjad Hossain, who was shot dead when police and AL leaders and activists attacked the students and people in the anti-discrimination student-people movement on July 19 last in the city. “Sajjad’s wife Jitu Begum filed a murder case accusing 51 named people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina as the main accused and 300 more unknown persons, on August 20 last,” the OC said.

idul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, journalist Subhash Singh Roy, former Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Nayeemul Islam Khan, former State Minister Mohammad A. Arafat, Awami League leader Apu Ukil, among others, are also accused in the case. In that case, Mazharul Islam Lebu was a listed accused.

The SP said, “No one who killed the students in the 2024 mass uprising will be spared from the law. Wherever they are, they will be brought under the law.”
