Universities Are Platforms for Knowledge and Its Dissemination: UGC Chairman

Tangail: Professor Dr. SMA Fayez, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, emphasized today that universities serve as not only institutions for acquiring knowledge but also platforms for its dissemination. He highlighted the collaborative role of teachers and students in generating knowledge, urging them to consider their societal contributions beyond their academic achievements.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Fayez made these remarks during the orientation programme for the 2024-2025 academic sessions at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail, where he attended as the chief guest. UGC Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Tanzim Uddin Khan, present as a special guest, encouraged students to uphold the ideals of Mawlana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, the university's namesake, and emphasized the importance of focusing on studies from the start of their academic journey.

The event was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand, with the welcome speech delivered by Member Secretary of the Orientation Programme Committee, Professor Md. Fazlul Karim. Professor Dr. Mosammat Nurjahan Khatun conducted the programme. In his address, Prof. Anwarul stressed that university life is a pivotal phase for character development and future building, beyond mere knowledge acquisition.

The orientation also featured congratulatory speeches from deans of various faculties, including Professor Dr. Mohammad Matiur Rahman (Faculty of Engineering), Professor Dr. Md. Abu Zubair (Faculty of Life Sciences), Professor Dr. Mohammad Idris Ali (Faculty of Science), Professor Dr. Kaniz Mariam Akhtar (Faculty of Business Studies), and Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadeqin (Faculty of Social Science). Representing the new students, Shah Md. Mahin Chowdhury and Fariha Mehjabeen Adiba shared their perspectives on embarking on their university journey.
