Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today affirmed that the national election will proceed as planned in the first half of February next year, ensuring a festive and peaceful environment despite any attempts to create disruptions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus made these statements during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna in the city, attended by representatives from seven political parties and one organization at 5pm. The parties and organization present included Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), Nagorik Oikya, Gonosonghoti Andolon, Gano Odhikar Parishad, LDP, Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Jatiya Gano Front, and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh.
After the meeting, Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser's Press Secretary, briefed reporters outside the Jamuna. Quoting Professor Yunus, Alam stated that the election aims to offer a positive voting experience for all citizens, overcoming past grievances. The Chief Adviser emphasized that attempts to prevent the interim government from conducting the election would be met with vigilance, reiterating the commitment to hold the elections in February and transition power to an elected government.
Professor Yunus sought cooperation from all political entities to ensure the smooth organization of the polls, describing the election as a collective opportunity to shape Bangladesh's future. He highlighted the importance of self-reliance and confidence as guiding principles for the electoral process, urging families to partake in the voting experience together.
The Chief Adviser also cautioned about potential challenges and attempts to create divisions, stressing the need for unity and vigilance. He specifically mentioned the importance of maintaining peace during the upcoming Durga Puja, encouraging political parties to help prevent any disturbances during the festivities.
Following the political meeting, Gano Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur's wife Maria Akter, along with party officials, met with Professor Yunus. During this session, the Chief Adviser directed Health Ministry officials to promptly arrange for Nur's medical treatment abroad.
Present at the meeting were Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan. Law Adviser Nazrul announced the formation of a one-member judicial probe committee led by Justice Ali Reza, with a report expected within 15 days.
