Nilphamari: Two minor girls drowned in a pond at Nilphamari Government College on Saturday afternoon. The tragic incident involves Safrin Jannat and Tanha Akhter, both aged seven. Safrin was the daughter of Matiur Rahman, an official at Nilphamari Sonali Bank, while Tanha was the daughter of Zahirul Islam. The girls resided in the same rented house on College Station Road in the district town.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the girls went to the pond to take a bath and subsequently drowned. Safrin's younger brother, Alfi, witnessed the incident and began screaming, which alerted the locals. Responding quickly, the locals rushed to the scene, rescued the girls, and transported them to Nilphamari General Hospital. However, the on-duty doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station M.R. Sayeed confirmed the incident, expressing concern over the unfortunate event. The community mourns the loss of the two children, highlighting the need for increased safety measures around water bodies to prevent such incidents in the future.
