Two Arrested with Smuggled Goods Worth Taka 2.5 Crore in Jashore

Jashore: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested two people with a huge quantity of smuggled goods worth Taka 2.5 crore from Bhaberber Truck Terminal in Benapole last night. The arrested men are truck driver Abdul Malek, 46, son of Nader Mollah of Haji Road Collegepara area, and helper Antar Karmakar, 29, son of Sushant Karmakar of Shibrampurpara village in Magura district.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a BGB team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a drive at the truck terminal at midnight. They recovered 1,476 pieces of Indian sarees, 215 pieces of three-piece suits, 10,693 pieces of various Indian medicines, 74,455 pieces of various brands of Indian cosmetics, and some motorcycle tires, all valued at Taka 2.5 crore, after searching a cargo truck. Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, Commander of Jashore BGB-49 Battalion, confirmed the details of the operation.



The team subsequently arrested the truck driver and his helper. A case has been filed at Benapole Port Police Station in connection with the incident. The arrested individuals, along with the seized goods, have been handed over to the police station for further processing.
