Dhaka: A court in Dhaka has imposed a travel ban on Nurjahan Begum, the wife of former Samabaya Bank chairman Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi, in connection with allegations of corruption. The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain, following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). This development comes after a similar restriction was placed on Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi himself.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating claims that Nurjahan Begum concealed information about assets worth Taka 14.70 lakh and accumulated illegal wealth amounting to Taka 1.19 crore. The ACC’s plea to the court suggested that Begum was attempting to leave the country to avoid legal proceedings.

The investigation was initiated by ACC assistant director Md Monirul Islam, who submitted the travel ban request to the court. Separate legal cases were filed against Mohi and his wife by ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam on October 16. Mohi is accused of illicitly acquiring wealth totaling Taka 2.70 crore and allegedly being involved in the disappearance of over 13,000 bhori of gold, which had been deposited with the state-run bank as collateral by borrowers.
