Dhaka: The 30th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) was inaugurated today at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre located in Purbachal, Rupganj, Narayanganj. Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin officiated the inauguration of this significant event.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sk. Bashir Uddin emphasized that the DITF is a pivotal event in the realm of Bangladesh’s trade and commerce. He portrayed the fair as a vital platform that highlights Bangladesh’s initiatives, innovations, and commercial advancements, rather than being a simple exhibition of products. He further elaborated on the importance of the fair in showcasing Bangladesh’s emergence as a vital player in global trade.

The Commerce Adviser outlined the objectives of the international trade fairs, which include the development and diversification of export products, penetration into new international markets, strengthening of economic diplomacy, and enhancement of the country’s image abroad. He highlighted that the fair plays a crucial role in connecting producers with consumers and entrepreneurs with investors, thereby strengthening Bangladesh’s brand on a global scale.

Referring to the challenges post-LDC graduation, Sk. Bashir Uddin mentioned that the “Global Sourcing Expo 2025 Dhaka,” the first-ever international sourcing fair, was organized at the same venue last year, providing significant opportunities to showcase Bangladesh’s production and export capabilities. He expressed optimism about organizing similar events in the future to sustain the momentum of export growth.

The adviser also accentuated the role of entrepreneurs in the success of the trade fair, noting that their participation aids in projecting the country’s image through product quality, innovation, and competitiveness. He suggested that entrepreneurs’ direct engagement with buyers and market analysis could lead to tangible commercial benefits and contribute to export growth.

Highlighting government initiatives to diversify export products, Sk. Bashir Uddin announced that paper and packaging products have been designated as the “Product of the Year 2026,” as part of efforts to encourage their production and marketing.

The event also included speeches from Export Promotion Bureau Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif, Commerce Ministry Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, and FBCCI Administrator Md Abdur Rahim Khan. The inauguration was postponed from January 1 to January 3 due to national mourning following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

In an effort to promote sustainability, polyethylene bags and single-use plastics have been banned at this year’s fair. Environment-friendly shopping bags are available at reduced prices through the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. The fair features 324 pavilions, stalls, and restaurants, catering to a variety of local and international businesses.

Ticket prices for the fair are set at Taka 50 for adults and Taka 25 for children, while freedom fighters, persons with disabilities, and those injured in the July Uprising are granted free entry with valid identification. Since 1995, the DITF has been organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau to promote domestic products, boost industrial production, and generate employment.
