Sunamganj: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate from Sunamganj-1 constituency, Maulana Tofail Ahmed Khan, has articulated a comprehensive plan to harness the area's mineral resources and alleviate poverty. Sunamganj-1, which includes Dharmapasha, Madhyanagar, Jamalganj, and Tahirpur upazilas, is known for its natural wealth, housing customs stations, tourist attractions like Tanguar Haor, and reserves of sand-stone and fish sanctuaries.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tofail Ahmed believes that only through the strategic use of these resources can sustainable development be achieved in the constituency. He stressed the importance of improving the quality of life through government assistance and 'Zakat' funds, while ensuring that there is no mismanagement or exploitation of the region's industrial potential.
The candidate has committed to a fair distribution of resources and the protection of workers' rights, aiming to unite the community across political lines for development. He highlighted the need for modern, vocational education to integrate marginalized groups into the broader development framework.
Regarding the election process, Tofail Ahmed assured that his party adheres to the electoral code of conduct, with leaders and activists trained to uphold free and fair elections. He stressed the necessity of respecting these guidelines to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Tofail Ahmed also addressed the proposed referendum on the July Charter, aligning with the demand of Bangladesh's populace for voting rights restoration and state reforms. Jamaat-e-Islami is actively promoting a 'yes' vote for the referendum.
As the election nears, Tofail Ahmed remains optimistic about a fair voting process, free from intimidation. The Sunamganj-1 constituency consists of 501,505 registered voters, with a demographic spread of 256,185 men, 245,360 women, and 10 third-gender individuals.
Competing with Tofail Ahmed are BNP's Kamruzzaman Kamrul and Nezame Islam Party's Maulana Mozzamil Haque. The political climate is charged with daily campaigns, rallies, and meetings, reflecting the constituency's significance in the national political arena. Voters remain vigilant, evaluating candidates' promises and the potential for genuine change.
