Dhaka: The government has appointed Suraiya Akhter Jahan, who is currently serving as the additional secretary of the Local Government Division, as the new administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). This appointment comes after the completion of the one-year contractual tenure of the previous administrator, Mohammad Ejaz.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Local Government Division, which operates under the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry, issued a gazette notification regarding the appointment on Monday. The notification specifies that Suraiya Akhter Jahan has been assigned her new role under Section 25 A(1) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.
In her role as administrator, Suraiya Akhter will assume the powers and responsibilities of the DNCC mayor, as outlined under further orders in accordance with Section 25A(3) of the ordinance. Previously, Mohammad Ejaz was appointed as the full-time administrator of the DNCC on a contractual basis on February 12 of the previous year. With the conclusion of his tenure, Suraiya Akhter Jahan steps in to take over the responsibilities as the new administrator.
