Habiganj: Three children drowned in a pond at Panjarai village of Kargaon union under Nabiganj upazila of the district today. The deceased were identified as Shraban Sarkar, 3, son of Ratish Sarkar of Panjarai village, Shuvo Sarkar, 4, son of Jagai Sarkar, and Ahona Sarkar, 5, daughter of Brajlal Sarkar of Noagaon village of the upazila. All the deceased were cousins.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, locals reported that the children were playing in the courtyard of their house in the afternoon. During their play, one child accidentally fell into a nearby pond. The other two children also fell into the water while attempting to rescue their cousin.
The children were subsequently rushed to the Nabiganj Upazila Health Complex. However, the on-duty doctors declared all three children dead upon arrival. The incident was confirmed by the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the Upazila Health Complex, Dr. Champak Kishore Saha Sumon.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Anisur Rahman of Nabiganj Police Station also confirmed the tragic event.
