Sirajganj:Police have arrested three bKash workers over an alleged attempt to rape a female student from Rabindra University.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrested individuals are Tarek Rabbi, 36, an IT specialist at a bKash service point in Dakbanglapara of Shahjadpur municipality; Prahari Hossain Ali, 48, from Baziarpara; and Chayan Islam, 27, a bKash worker from Berakuchatia in Shahjadpur.
The victim, a third-year student of the Management Department at Rabindra University, has been residing in a mess on the western side of Dakbanglapara. On the night of the incident, one of her male friends visited her for personal reasons and left shortly after.
It was reported that several individuals monitoring CCTV cameras at a nearby bKash service point noticed the visit and subsequently called the student, demanding Tk30,000 and threatening to release the footage if she did not comply. Later, the accused allegedly called her to the bKash office and demanded her gold chain when she could not provide the money.
The situation escalated when Tarek Rabbi allegedly attempted to rape the student. As she tried to exit the room, Prahari Samad allegedly sexually harassed her and confiscated her mobile phone. The student was reportedly harassed again while fleeing the scene.
The victim has since filed a case with the Shahjadpur Police Station.
