Dhaka: Bangladesh Railway (BR) has clarified that a temporary mandap was removed from its land in the Khilkhet area on Thursday after completing all legal procedures.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, attempts to spread confusion are being observed in different media regarding the removal of the temporary mandap from railway land in Khilkhet. A statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing this morning addressed these concerns.

In the statement, Railways Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan explained, “Last year, during the Durga Puja, some people built a puja mandap on railway land in Khilkhet without any permission. Later, they were allowed to hold puja on the condition that the mandap be removed after the puja.”

He further detailed that the puja organizers had promised railway authorities to remove the mandap post-puja. Despite repeated requests, the mandap remained, and the organizers initiated plans to establish a permanent temple at the site.

The adviser noted that although the organizers were repeatedly asked to cease such efforts, they did not comply. To reclaim the public property from illegal encroachment, the temporary mandap was removed after following all legal procedures.

The railway authorities initially evicted over a hundred shops, political party offices, and a kitchen market from the land before removing the temporary mandap. The idol from the mandap was immersed in the Balu River with due respect.

The railway authorities have urged everyone to refrain from any misleading and provocative acts concerning this matter.
