Dhaka: The two-day biennial national conference of the Bangladesh Street Mime Council is set to commence tomorrow at the seminar room of the National Theatre Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This eagerly anticipated event will feature a series of seminars and performances aimed at celebrating and advancing the art of mime in Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the conference will host two seminars under the theme 'Mime of Awakening in the Spirit of Liberation'. These discussions will explore the historical and future significance of mime in the cultural landscape of Bangladesh. Md Kamrul Hasan Khan will present a paper titled 'July Uprising: Cultural Activists and Mime Artists in the Aftermath', and Asabir Rafsan will discuss 'Potentials of Street Mime', offering insights into the evolution and potential of this unique art form.
More than 20 mime groups from various regions of the country are expected to perform every afternoon, showcasing their talents and interpretations to festival attendees. These performances are set to highlight the rich diversity and creativity inherent in street mime.
The inaugural ceremony will be graced by Dr Nazneen Kawshar Chowdhury, Secretary of the Chief Adviser's Office and Chairman of the National Skill Development Authority, who will serve as the chief guest. The closing ceremony on December 20 will have the presence of Poet Reza Uddin Stalin, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, as the chief guest.
A council session on the morning of the second day will see the formation of a new executive committee for the council, which will serve for the next two years. International mime artist and organiser Rizwan Rajan is set to preside over the conference events.
Conference and Festival Committee Convener Asabir Rafsan and Member Secretary Ihtiaz Tawki have called upon all stakeholders to actively engage in the event, ensuring its success and vibrancy.
