Dhaka: BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today confirmed that Begum Zia's physical condition remains stable.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Zahid provided updates on Khaleda Zia's health status while speaking to journalists outside the main gate of Evercare Hospital in the city. He assured that her condition is unchanged from previous reports and that she continues to receive proper treatment as per medical advice.
Khaleda Zia has been receiving medical care at the hospital since November 23 and has been in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) since November 27. A dedicated medical board, including local and international doctors from Bangladesh, the UK, USA, and Australia, oversees her treatment. This board conducts daily health checks, and due to time zone differences, they hold a joint meeting with foreign physicians every evening to coordinate her care.
Dr Zahid expressed hope for Khaleda Zia's recovery, stating that the physicians are optimistic about her gradual improvement. He also highlighted that the party's acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman are closely supervising her treatment.
Furthermore, Khaleda Zia's family, including the wife of the late Arafat Rahman Koko, her siblings, and other relatives, are maintaining a close watch on her well-being from outside the CCU. Dr Zahid extended gratitude to BNP leaders, party activists, leaders of all political parties, and the Chief Adviser and Advisers of the Interim Government for their continued support.
He urged the public to help maintain a peaceful hospital environment, acknowledging the cooperation of law enforcement agencies, and emphasized that the treatment of other patients should not be disrupted by Khaleda Zia's presence. Dr Zahid appealed for prayers for Begum Khaleda Zia's swift recovery, so she can resume her political role in Bangladesh.
