Stocks Surge as Dhaka and Chittagong Exchanges See Large-Cap Activity

Dhaka: Stocks today witnessed an upward trend as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges rose with increased activities in some large-cap securities. DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), surged by 76.4 points to settle at 5,594 points compared to 5,518 points in the previous trading session.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, market analysts observed that a bullish wave swept across the trading floor as investors continued to chase the current rallies. This was driven by positive expectations, leading to price appreciations in the majority of scrips for consecutive sessions. Meanwhile, market turnover increased by 14.5% to Taka 13.0 billion from Taka 11.3 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Pharmaceutical issues exerted the highest turnover at 14.6%, followed by Textile at 12.4% and Bank sectors at 10.5%. Most sectors displayed positive returns, with Engineering at 4.4%, IT at 3.4%, and Ceramic at 3.1% exhibiting the most positive returns on the bourse today. Only Mutual Funds and Textile exerted marginal corrections, at -0.7% and -0.1% respectively.

Out of the 397 issues traded, 200 advanced, 139 declined, and 58 remained unchanged. The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on a positive note. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) increased by 140.3 points and 232.4 points, respectively.
