Mymensingh: Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder has announced that the country’s rice stock is currently at a satisfactory level, negating the need for rice imports this year. Speaking at a meeting held in the Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner’s conference room, Majumder highlighted the positive yield from the current Boro season as a key factor in this assessment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Food Adviser stated that with a promising production outlook for the upcoming Aman season, the nation could potentially avoid rice imports altogether. He reported that the current food stock stands at 15 lakh tonnes, which is an increase of 3 lakh tonnes compared to the same period last year. Majumder emphasized the ongoing nature of food stock management, aiming to maintain a satisfactory position while being prepared for any contingencies.
Majumder also reflected on the previous year’s situation, where a substantial amount of rice had to be imported. However, with favorable Aman yields anticipated, he expressed confidence in meeting the domestic demand without relying on imports.
The meeting was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Mokhtar Ahmed, with participation from key officials including Additional Divisional Commissioner Tahmina Akhter, Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Mufidul Alam, Sherpur Deputy Commissioner Tarafdar Mahmudur Rahman, Jamalpur Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum, Netrokona Deputy Commissioner Banani Biswas, Regional Food Officer Abu Naeem Md. Shafiul Alam, and several district food officers.
