Dhaka: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku today emphasized that recognizing women’s rights is not enough; efforts must be made to implement them effectively. He delivered these remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized at the Department of Livestock Services’ conference room, in observance of International Women’s Day 2026.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tuku highlighted the pivotal roles played by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia in advancing women’s empowerment. He pointed out that significant strides in women’s rights were achieved through transformative changes, particularly in education. The minister also noted that under Begum Khaleda Zia’s leadership, women were first recruited into the police and Ansar forces, marking a significant milestone in their participation in various sectors, including livestock.
The state minister acknowledged Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s consistent emphasis on women’s roles and status in his speeches. To enhance women’s respect and self-reliance within families, the BNP government is considering the introduction of a ‘Family Card’ in women’s names, aimed at providing them with greater dignity and economic security.
Sultan Salauddin Tuku stressed the importance of collective efforts in advancing society, highlighting BNP’s core philosophy of ‘Bangladesh First’ as a guiding principle for the country’s development and progress. He noted that the BNP election manifesto prominently focuses on enhancing women’s dignity and rights.
