Dhaka: Seven leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, have lodged complaints at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today. They accused 53 individuals, including law enforcement officers, of enforced disappearance and torture.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the complaints were filed on behalf of ICS members Md Jhonny Islam, Md Abdul Karim, Md Saiful Islam, Md Delwar Hossain, Md Alamgir Hossain, former Bhatara Thana ICS president Md Nurul Amin, and former Jhinaidah sadar upazilla ICS president Md Kamruzzaman. ICS law affairs secretary Abdullah Al Noman stated that four of these individuals have sustained life-altering injuries due to alleged torture, with some losing limbs. Kamruzzaman, who was taken away in 2017, remains missing.

The ICS has so far lodged 17 complaints with the tribunal, representing 16 of their members and one civilian. Among the victims, Md Jhonny Islam was reportedly detained by law enforcement agents aided by Ba
ngladesh Chhatra League members from his home in Rajshahi on February 17, 2015. He was allegedly subjected to severe torture at Rajpara Police Station and later shot in his leg. Despite being taken to a hospital, his treatment was reportedly impeded by political interference.

Another victim, Alamgir Hossain, allegedly endured gunshots and physical assault by Awami League cadres in February 2013, which left him permanently disabled. Meanwhile, Md Delwar Hossain lost his vision after being shot by police in December 2022, and Md Abdul Karim was rendered lame after a gunshot injury in March 2013.
