Dhaka: The ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her party's deputy and former Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and 31 others have been charge-sheeted in a case lodged over the killing of truck driver Hossain during the July Mass Uprising. Police filed a charge sheet with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on November 23. Investigation Officer (IO) and Mohammadpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman brought charges under several sections of the penal code.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the other prominent accused in the case include former Foreign Affairs Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former state minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former lawmaker Sadek Khan, and the president and general secretary of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, Saddam Hossain and Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.
The case documents reveal that Md Hossain, aged 25, parked his truck in Gabtoli on July 19, 2024, intending to return home as a nationwide curfew was imposed at the time. While he was near Hossain Market in the Chad Udyan area of Mohammadpur, members of the Awami League, Jubo League, and the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League opened fire. Md Hossain, Sajjad Hossain Jihad, and Shahin were shot, with Md Hossain dying on the spot.
Hossain's mother, Rina Begum, filed the case with the Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024.
