Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today alleged that the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was a planned murder, not a natural incident. Rizvi claimed that Sheikh Hasina is responsible for this death, stating that Begum Khaleda Zia was slowly pushed to death through negligence and torture by the then government.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a doa-munazat programme seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of Begum Khaleda Zia at Dakeshwari Temple. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Front.

Rizvi described Begum Zia as a significant figure, similar to a mother who provides courage and support. He emphasized her role as an anchor for the whole nation and highlighted her presence as a source of encouragement during challenging times, especially when advocating for democracy.

He further noted that Begum Khaleda Zia was religious and non-communal, asserting that a truly religious person cannot be communal. Rizvi praised her as a modern, humane, and non-communal leader who provided security and confidence to people of all backgrounds.

Rizvi also criticized the treatment Khaleda Zia received while in jail, mentioning that she entered jail in a sound condition but returned home in a deteriorated state. He accused designated officials of the then government of negligence in providing treatment, medicine, and food, which he claimed was part of a plot leading to her death.

The BNP leader praised Khaleda Zia’s virtues, stating that she maintained decency in her language despite facing criticism from politicians. He commended her honesty, loyalty, and commitment, suggesting that future generations will recognize her as a leader who kept her promises.

The event was attended by BNP national executive committee assistant organizing secretary Aminul Islam, executive committee member Mahbubur Rahman and Debasish Roy Modhu, Chhatra Dal central committee vice-president Dr. Touhidur Rahman Awal, and other leaders from various BNP front organizations. Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Front central committee president Aparna Roy presided over the programme.
