Chattogram: The Minister for Cultural Affairs, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, underscored the significant achievements of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, emphasizing his genuine compassion and love for children. He described Ziaur Rahman as a transformative figure capable of reshaping the nation’s thinking and history. The Minister called for a deeper understanding of Ziaur Rahman’s substantial impact, speaking as the chief guest at a painting competition and award-distribution ceremony for children and teenagers organized by the Zia Memorial Museum in Chattogram to observe Independence and National Day.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Md. Mufidur Rahman, with City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain addressing the function as a special guest. Nitai Roy Chowdhury highlighted another significant aspect of Ziaur Rahman’s legacy: Bangladeshi nationalism. He noted that Ziaur Rahman envisioned a nation where people of all backgrounds-Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, Bengalis, Santals, Chakmas, Marmas, Kukis-could coexist as one community, epitomizing Bangladeshi nationalism.
Furthermore, Ziaur Rahman’s foreign policy was marked by a commitment to maintaining independence and avoiding external dominance. He advocated for friendly relations with all nations while safeguarding Bangladesh’s sovereignty. Ziaur Rahman also championed initiatives to boost the country’s economy, including infrastructure development, agricultural projects, women’s empowerment, education, and overseas employment opportunities.
Nitai Roy Chowdhury stressed the importance of preserving and sharing these aspects of history to educate future generations about Ziaur Rahman’s contributions to Bangladesh’s progress. The event was attended by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, and Director General of Bangladesh National Museum Tanzim Ibne Wahab as special guests.
