Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today directed the authorities concerned to take prompt measures to assist farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor region. He gave necessary instructions to prepare a list of the affected farmers with transparency.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister issued the directives at a meeting held at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here this afternoon, said a press release of the Prime Minister’s Press wing. The meeting was held to review the activities of providing financial assistance to affected farmers in the haor areas.
The release indicated that the Prime Minister emphasized creating an accurate and transparent list by identifying the actual affected farmers. Based on this list, financial assistance will be provided to the farmers for the next three months. The meeting decided that financial assistance would be given to the affected farmers as quickly as possible. Simultaneously, discussions were held on adjusting the timeline for paddy planting and harvesting activities to prevent further losses due to rainfall.
Earlier, on April 29, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the government would strive to provide support for three months by identifying farmers impacted by the heavy rainfall in the haor areas.
The meeting was attended by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Agriculture, and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid, alongside lawmakers from the haor region including Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Dr. Osman Faruque, Fazlur Rahman, Lutfozzaman Babar, Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Nurul Islam, Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon, and Mohammad Koysor Ahmed.
