Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today reaffirmed that the national elections will proceed as scheduled in February next year, quelling any speculation of a delay. He emphasized the Election Commission’s ongoing preparations and reassured citizens that there is no reason for concern regarding the election timeline.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shafiqul Alam addressed reporters in Magura town after visiting the July Mass Uprising martyrs’ memorial. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the February election timeline, stating that the post-monsoon period will foster an electoral atmosphere, culminating in a festive mood among the populace.
Alam remarked on the transformative journey of Bangladesh, noting the nation’s progress through significant sacrifices. He suggested that once the election schedule is publicized, candidates would engage directly with the electorate, thereby fostering genuine enthusiasm and dispelling any lingering doubts.
He further highlighted the Election Commission’s meticulous preparations in line with the February timeline and assured that the government has taken all necessary measures to ensure a transparent and fair electoral process.
During his visit, Alam paid homage to the martyrs of the 2024 Mass Uprising, including Chhatra Dal leader Mehedi Hasan Rabbi and Haque Al Amin, by laying floral wreaths at their graves. He expressed his intention to visit the graves of additional martyrs, acknowledging their pivotal roles in shaping the new Bangladesh and reaffirming the government’s commitment to honoring their sacrifices.
