DHAKA - The Supreme Court (SC) has urged bar associations in the country to observe death reverence on a single day each year, instead of after the death of each of their members, adjourning the trial process for those days.
"Around 28 lakhs cases have been pending before different courts in the country. It is necessary to utilize maximum the working hours of the court to ease the unbearable backlog of cases. At this stage, there is no alternative to discourage observing death reverence on multiple dates," a notice signed by High Court Division Assistant Registrar (Administration) Sohag Ranjan Paul said.
The bar associations observe death reverence in honor of their members after their death. For that, proceedings of the courts are usually adjourned. So, the courts have to remain idle on every day whenever the bar association decides to observe the death reverence after death of their members.
