Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has put forward a proposal to establish a new fund amounting to Tk 100 crore specifically aimed at supporting young entrepreneurs. “This is the first time such a fund is going to be created. Besides, a project has been undertaken to create employment opportunities by providing training and credit facilities to 9 lakh youths by December 2028,” he announced during the presentation of the proposed national budget for FY26. The presentation was delivered through a pre-recorded speech broadcasted on Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the finance adviser emphasized the government’s commitment to developing a skilled youth workforce and fostering self-employment opportunities by harnessing their potential. Highlighting the success of the ‘Tarunyer Utshob (Youth Festival) 2025’, which revolved around the theme ‘Let’s change the country, change the world’, Salehuddin outlined various initiatives under the proposed budget.
To further promote self-employment, the ceiling for youth loans provided to trained individuals across the nation has been raised to a maximum of Tk 2,00,000. In addition, the loan ceiling for successful young entrepreneurs has been elevated to Tk 5,00,000, enhancing their financial capability to thrive in their ventures.
Dr Salehuddin also noted the launch of self-employment generating projects dedicated to the family members of those injured and martyred during the July Mass Uprising. Furthermore, starting from January 2025, freelancing training programs have been initiated for 28,800 educated and job-seeking youths in 48 districts across the country, aiming to equip them with necessary skills for the digital economy.
To engage the youth more effectively in the nation’s developmental process, Dr Salehuddin proposed an allocation of Tk 100 crore for the celebration of ‘Tarunyer Utshob (Youth Festival)’ in the upcoming fiscal year, reinforcing the government’s focus on youth empowerment and national growth.
