Khulna: The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) workers have fully cleaned the wastage of sacrificial animals within 8 hours after the Eid celebration.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, over 850 workers were engaged to remove the leftovers in the city on Eid day. The workers initiated their cleanliness drive around 12 pm and continued until 8 pm.
The KCC authorities appointed several vigilance teams across 31 wards to inspect the drive and also opened a control room to conduct the operations. KCC officials, led by the Acting Chief Conservancy Officer, who is also the Executive Magistrate of KCC, Kohinur Zahan, monitored the disposal activities of animal wastes in the city. Conservancy supervisors of each ward supervised the actions in their respective wards.
Around 97 vehicles, including 88 trucks, 9 container movers, vans, and other modern equipment were deployed on the city streets to aid in the removal of the wastage, Md. Anisur Rahman, Officer of the Conservancy Department of KCC, informed BSS. KCC workers sprayed 4,000 kgs of bleaching powder and 400 liters of savlon at the slaughtering spots in the city to eliminate the bad smell.
Earlier, KCC authorities designated a total of 141 slaughtering spots across 31 wards and conducted a campaign among city dwellers to ensure a congenial atmosphere during Eid-ul-Azha. KCC officials, including Kohinur Zahan and Md. Anisur Rahman, visited different areas of the city on Eid day to observe the cleanliness drive of the KCC workers.
While speaking to BSS, Member Secretary of the KCC Cattle Market Conducting Committee and Estate Officer Gazi Salah Uddin mentioned that city dwellers sacrificed 6,651 animals during this year’s Eid-ul-Azha. Additionally, KCC set a 4 percent ‘hassil’ for each selling sacrificial animal, reduced from the previous 5 percent, to provide relief to buyers.
