Moulvibazar: Road crashes claimed the lives of five people, including two brothers, during the Eid day and the day after in this northeastern district in three separate accidents, all involving motorbikes, police and witnesses said today. They reported that the two brothers, one being an expatriate in Saudi Arabia, were killed in a motorbike crash on Eid day as they were on their way to a relative’s home, carrying meats of their sacrificial animal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 26-year-old Saudi expatriate Sahed Hossain Sumon was killed instantly on Eid day as he was heading towards his father-in-law’s home on a motorbike with his brother, Rumon Ahmed. Rumon was fatally wounded and died hours later on the same day. He was initially rushed to Barolekha Upazila Health Complex, which later referred him to the better-equipped MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in Sylhet.
The accident occurred in the Kathaltoli area on the Barolekha-Kulaura regional highway on Saturday evening when a private car collided head-on with their bike. Barolekha police station chief Abul Kashem Sarkar stated that they seized the car, but its driver went into hiding.
In another incident, two youths, Jubed Miah and Kamrul Miah, were killed as their motorbikes collided head-on at Kacharibazar area on the Moulvibazar-Shamshernagar road during Eid day. Mahbub Miah, who was on one of the bikes, survived the crash but sustained critical injuries that required his admission to Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Police reported a third accident that killed an unidentified motorcyclist when his bike was hit head-on by a battery-driven van at Satgaon crossing under Srimongal upazila on June 8. The injured motorcyclist was rushed to Srimongal Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor, Kishore Podder, declared him dead.
