Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today urged the business community and international partners to collaborate with their Bangladeshi counterparts to transition from fossil fuel-dependent energy production to renewable and sustainable sources. She emphasized the impact of energy supply shortages over the past two years, which have severely affected industries, highlighting the necessity for sustainable energy solutions for both the country and the industry.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the Sustainable Apparel Forum (SAF) 2025. The event was arranged by the Netherlands Embassy in Dhaka and held at a city hotel. Rizwana stressed the need for a more responsible approach to sustainability in her address. She noted that having green factories or a large number of environmentally certified factories does not automatically equate to sustainable operations within the sector.

Rizwana further pointed out that the garment industry is not only energy-intensive but also relies heavily on water and chemical management. This makes responsible production practices crucial in the pursuit of sustainability. Her call to action is aimed at encouraging stakeholders to rethink their energy sources and production practices for a more sustainable future.
