Khulna: With Eid-ul-Azha approaching amid a heatwave, sales of air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions, and both rechargeable and ceiling fans have surged in the city markets there.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the period from April to June marks high sales of home appliances as temperatures begin to soar from March. Motiur Rahman, a sales executive at Best Electronics on KDA Avenue, noted that nearly 90 percent of annual sales for these appliances occur during this quarter. He mentioned that most customers are responding to the Eid Offer 2025, which includes discounts on ACs, refrigerators, TVs, washing machines, and deep freezers.
In addition to discount offers and complimentary gifts, the soaring temperatures in Khulna have significantly boosted sales of ACs and refrigerators. Manufacturers and importers have enhanced the appeal of their products by offering instant cash discounts and complimentary gifts, anticipating increased demand during the Eid festival, as stated by Rahman.
Rafsanul Islam, outlet manager of the Hisense showroom in the Dakbangla area, remarked on Wednesday about the vast presence of customers at their showrooms. He attributed this to the quality and cost-effectiveness of their ACs and refrigerators. He also noted that most customers are particularly interested in purchasing ACs, primarily due to the 36-month EMI facility available.
Md Habib, a sales executive at the Walton showroom on the city’s lower Jashore road, stated that they have prepared to meet the additional demand for fridges with just one day left for Eid-ul-Azha. Showrooms in the city’s KDA Avenue area have reported a brisk business, with customers buying fridges of both local and global brands.
A resident from the city’s Iqbalnagar area, Chowdhury Masud Mahmud, shared his experience of purchasing a foreign brand deep fridge, fulfilling a long-held dream made possible by money sent from his son in Malaysia. Another resident, Moutusi Ahmed from Gollamari, bought a deep freezer and a rechargeable fan, citing the unbearable temperature as a driving factor. Mahmud Hossain, a lecturer at Govt Model School and College at Boyra, echoed similar sentiments, saying he made his purchases after receiving his Eid bonus and salary, driven by the intense heat and the upcoming festival.
