Quader alerts drivers to reckless driving

Road Transport and Bridges Minister today alerted the vehicle drivers against reckless driving saying that in winter they should drive slowly as foggy weather is risky for driving.

"Road accidents occur mostly in foggy weather. So, drivers must control the speed of vehicles in rough weather," he told a discussion marking the 24th anniversary of "Nirapad Sarak Chai" (We Demand Safe Road), an organization working for road safety, at Jatiya Press Club VIP lounge here.

Quader, also Awami League general secretary, sought cooperation from all to stop road accident.

"In our country, both drivers and pedestrians have lack of consciousness. Drivers are reckless on one hand while pedestrians are jay walkers on the other. So, both should be conscious to get rid of road accident," he said.

The minister said though the county's infrastructure is developing, the people's mindset is not changing.

"If people become aware, road accidents would be reduced. Lack of awareness is responsible for road accidents," he said.

Giving direction to Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to introduce apps-based taxicab service, Quader said the government has been working tirelessly to ease the communication system.

He described different government initiatives including introducing metro-rail and constructing elevated expressway.

Accident Research Institute Director Professor Moazzem Hossain, 'Nirapad Sarak Chai' chairman Ilias Kanchan and film actor Mizu Ahmed addressed the function with the organization vice chairman Syed Ehsanul Haque Kamal in the chair.
