Rajshahi: Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid today emphasized the significance of nurturing a reading habit among children for their development and urged parents to moderate their children's use of smartphones and digital devices.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the gathering was organized by the Department of Public Libraries under the nationwide Mobile Library Project initiated by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, with support from Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. The event was held at the Rajshahi Divisional Government Public Library, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam. Special guests included Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Billal Hossain Khan and Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Sanjeev Sutradhar, Director of the Department of Public Libraries.
Dr. Bazlur Rashid highlighted the role of parents in monitoring their children's activities and ensuring their engagement in productive pastimes like libraries, sports, and cultural pursuits, rather than idle gossip. He underscored that these activities contribute to the holistic development of children.
The event saw the participation of officials from government and private sectors, cultural figures, parents, students, dignitaries, and journalists. The gathering concluded with a prize distribution to winners of various competitions. The program was inaugurated with the release of balloons and festoons and included a colorful rally through the city. The day ended on a high note with a vibrant cultural performance.
