Dhaka: A Dhaka court today sent social media content creator Abdullah Al Mamun, also known as Prince Mamun, to jail in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, following accusations of demanding Tk 1 crore in dowry and physically assaulting his second wife. The court proceedings unfolded as police presented Mamun before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka, seeking an order for his detention.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sub-Inspector Md Yawur Rahman of Bhatara Police Station, who is the investigation officer of the case, argued for Mamun's detention. Meanwhile, the defense requested bail for Mamun. After considering arguments from both sides, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam denied the bail petition and ordered that Mamun be sent to jail.
Earlier in the day, the case was initiated by Mamun's wife, Atikia Faizah Mohona, a fashion model, who filed it at Bhatara Police Station around 8:30 am. She accused Mamun of demanding Tk 1 crore in dowry and subjecting her to physical assault. Following the filing of the case, police promptly arrested Mamun.
The case statement revealed that Mohona married Mamun about five months ago. Since the beginning of their marriage, the couple reportedly faced frequent disputes over various issues. The complaint further alleged that Mamun engaged in extramarital relationships with multiple women and had a drug addiction. When Mohona confronted him about these issues, he allegedly assaulted her.
Additionally, the plaintiff claimed that Mamun had been demanding Tk 1 crore in dowry since their marriage, under the pretext of needing funds for business purposes. Upon her refusal to comply with his demands, Mamun allegedly subjected her to physical and mental abuse.
