Prime Minister Attends World Teachers’ Day Event to Honor Distinguished Educators

Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today participated in a discussion organized by the Ministry of Education in celebration of World Teachers' Day 2026 at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this year marks the inaugural presentation of the 'Guni Shikkhok Sammanona' (Distinguished Teachers' Award), which will honor 100 teachers selected from various educational categories. The award ceremony, taking place at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium, will have the Prime Minister personally handing out the awards to the recipients.

The awardees, who were chosen from a diverse range of educational institutions including primary and secondary schools, colleges, madrasas, technical institutions, and universities, will each receive Tk 2 lakh in cash, a crest, and a certificate of recognition. This year's increase in the number of recipients from 12 to 100 aims to enhance the social status and professional acknowledgment of distinguished educators.

Of the 100 awardees, 10 are from the primary level, 20 from the secondary level, 25 from colleges, 20 from general universities, 10 from medical colleges, three from agricultural universities, three from engineering universities, four from science and technology and other specialized universities, and five are honored under the prime minister's special quota.

World Teachers' Day is observed globally every year on October 5, emphasizing the importance of teachers' dignity, rights, professional development, and ensuring quality education.
