Dhaka: The present government is giving equal importance to all kinds of indoor and outdoor games, aiming to elevate Bangladesh’s sports sector to unprecedented levels. This initiative was underscored today with the commencement of the ‘First Division Badminton League 2026’ at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Indoor Stadium in Paltan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inauguration ceremony was graced by State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque, who emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing all sports equally. He highlighted the introduction of a monthly salary structure of Taka 100,000 for 300 athletes from 28 federations, aimed at fostering professionalism among sports professionals.
Badminton’s inclusion in the ‘Notun Kuri Sports’ program, launched on May 2, was also noted by Aminul, marking it as one of the eight disciplines expected to cultivate skilled shuttlers from the grassroots. This reflects the government’s broader vision to develop sports talent across the nation.
The minister further announced plans for extensive sports infrastructure development, with initiatives to construct ‘Sports Villages’ in all 64 districts of Bangladesh. Starting this year, ten of these villages will be developed, featuring cutting-edge indoor stadium facilities.
In response to a request from the Bangladesh Badminton Federation, Aminul instructed immediate actions to install air-conditioning at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Indoor Stadium and advised on hiring a foreign coach for two years to guarantee quality training.
Aminul also stressed the role of sports in steering youth away from drugs and unethical activities, contributing to the cultivation of a healthy nation. Following the badminton league inauguration, he also opened the ‘Independence Day Age-Group Roller Skating’ event, marking a significant day for sports in Bangladesh.
