Dhaka: National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr. Ali Riaz announced today that political parties have reached a consensus on most procedures concerning the appointment of the chief adviser of the caretaker government.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the first half of the 15th day of talks with political parties, the consensus commission delved into the process of forming the caretaker government. Following these discussions, the commission presented a revised and unified proposal to the parties, detailing the procedures for appointing the caretaker government’s chief adviser. Dr. Riaz explained that the proposal was thoroughly discussed, with parties agreeing on most aspects. The commission is set to review the language and details of this draft proposal and make a decision on Tuesday, considering the political parties’ opinions gathered by tomorrow.
Dr. Riaz expressed optimism about finalizing the structure and framework of the system soon, stating that the target is to prepare the ‘July Charter’ by July 31. He emphasized the shared goal of finalizing the national charter within the month.
Paying homage to the family members of the injured and martyred in the July Uprising, who formed a human chain in front of the academy with a three-point demand, Professor Riaz expressed solidarity with their program. He noted that the consensus commission commenced work on the national charter on February 15.
He further mentioned that through the discussions with political parties, consensus has been achieved on several key issues, although a few matters remain unresolved. These will be addressed through continued dialogue.
Present at the meeting were commission members Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr. Md Ayub Mia, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, and Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser. Representatives from 30 political parties participated in today’s session, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens’ Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party.
