Police sues against 800 BNP men in Khulna

Police filed a case with Khulna Sadar Police Station last night against 800 BNP leaders and activists on charge of attacking on duty police personnel and obstructing government tasks.

Ajit Kumar Das, Sub-Inspector of Khulna Sadar Police Station filed the case as complainant against 59 named accused and others unknown accused.

The First Information Record (FIR) named accused are-Azizul Bari Helal, ICT affairs secretary of central BNP, Amir Ezaz Khan, convener of district unit of BNP, Monirul Hasan Bappy, member secretary of the district unit of BNP, Shafiqul Alam Tuhin, member secretary of city unit of BNP, Mahbub Hasan Piaru, president of the district unit of Jatiyatabdi Jubodal, Nazmul Huda Chowdhury Sagar, general secretary of city unit of Jubodal, and Ishtiak Hossain, convenor of the city unit of Jatiyatabdi Chhatradal.

According to the FIR, leaders and activists of BNP and its front organisations swooped on the duty police on Saturday afternoon from a procession in front of the BNP office at KD Ghosh Road and its adjacent areas in the city.

BNP men chanted slogans against on-duty police and threw brickbats from a procession which forced the police to reiterate with baton charge, tear gas and rubber bullets, narrated the FIR.

Talking to BSS, Tazul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (South) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP), said police fired five rounds of rubber bullets and seven rounds of tear gas on the unruly BNP men as they swooped on the duty Police from the procession.

When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Sadar Police Station, Hasan-Al-Mamun told BSS, BNP brought out a procession in front of the party office without getting any permission from the KMP.

“They chased and attacked the on-duty police chanting anti-government slogans from the procession as the law enforcement agencies requested to the leaders of BNP for stopping the procession,” he said.

The on-duty police were compelled to charge batons and hurled tear gas and rubber bullets while facing heinous attacks by unruly BNP men. Police, so far, arrested eight BNP men, OC added.

Earlier, BNP leaders and activists and its front organisations organized a sit-in-demonstration in front of the BNP office to press home their 10-point demands as part of their countrywide programme.
