Santosh: Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today urged the countrymen to remain alert against those opposing BNP’s welfare programmes. He emphasized the importance of being vigilant against parties and individuals attempting to spread confusion and obstruct the government’s welfare-oriented initiatives.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made these remarks while addressing a student rally at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Santosh. He criticized the opposition party’s conduct in parliament, questioning, “What have we seen in Parliament? Those, who have got only a small number of votes, are now demanding that whatever they say must be accepted.”
Rahman reiterated the BNP’s commitment to implementing the July Charter, highlighting that the BNP was the first to sign it when Dr. Muhammad Yunus invited political parties to do so. He criticized the opposition for their initial hesitation to sign the charter and questioned their motives.
The Prime Minister warned against any attempts to obstruct the government’s welfare programmes, such as canal excavation, Family Card, Farmer Card, and initiatives to produce professional players. He urged the public to remain vigilant against moves to destabilize the country, expressing concern over the resurgence of authoritarian tendencies.
Addressing recent elections, Rahman mentioned the Sherpur-3 election and the Bogura-6 by-election held on April 9, acknowledging minor incidents but noting the peaceful situation post-elections. He pointed to tension in the Baitul Mukarram area, suggesting efforts to destabilize the situation there.
Rahman concluded by urging unity in building Bangladesh, emphasizing the need to protect public-oriented programmes from being hindered. He called for vigilance against those who oppose the interests of the people and urged standing united to build the nation as envisioned.
Liberation War Affairs Minister Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, and lawmaker Abdus Salam Pintu attended the event. Earlier, Rahman offered ziarat at the grave of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani in Santosh and departed for Dhaka afterward.
