Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today sought the government officials’ effective role in implementing electoral pledges, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to fulfill the promises laid out in the party’s election manifesto.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister stressed that the people’s mandate for the manifesto demands that the current democratic government adhere to every clause and commitment of the July Charter. He urged government officials to utilize their talent and competence to efficiently implement the promises made by the government, emphasizing the need for transparency, accountability, and strong ethics in every sector to uphold the public’s trust.

Tarique Rahman, who also serves as the ruling BNP chairman, made these remarks while addressing an event at the Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) Foundation Auditorium. The event marked the laying of the foundation stone for a new training center-cum-dormitory building at the BIAM Foundation in the capital.

The Prime Minister refrained from questioning the past performance of government officials during previous regimes, instead conveying a message from the current democratic government. He portrayed the electoral promises as a binding contract with the people, highlighting the officials’ role as the backbone of state governance and the critical impact of their decisions on the nation.

Rahman also provided insights into the history and objectives of BIAM Foundation, emphasizing the long-term commitment of the BNP government towards developing an efficient and trained public administration. He articulated that the new building is intended to serve as a hub of knowledge and leadership development.

The Prime Minister elaborated on the need for modern training and technology to create skilled human resources within the government sector. He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a merit-based, transparent, efficient, and people-friendly public administration across state institutions.

He highlighted the recent democratic transition in the country as a reflection of the people’s aspiration for accountable and welfare-oriented governance. The Prime Minister also pointed to the mass uprising of July-August 2024 as evidence of the people’s sovereignty over the state, urging officials to prioritize citizens’ welfare.

Rahman expressed hope that BIAM’s curriculum would enhance the professional skills and innovative thinking of officials, aligning with the government’s goal to modernize and make the training system more result-oriented. He also discussed the importance of advanced courses and policy-oriented education.

The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing the administration’s role in the era of artificial intelligence and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, underlining the need for public administration officials to adapt to technological advancements to remain competitive globally. He outlined the government’s development vision, aiming for inclusivity, sustainability, and equality in society, with a focus on empowering women and youth and integrating environmental protection into policies.

Finally, Rahman urged public administration officials to view themselves as servants of the people, bridging the gap between policy formulation and implementation, and contributing significantly to the government’s success.
