Pintoo’s Body to Be Taken to Mohammedan Club Tomorrow.

Dhaka: The body of Zakaria Pintoo, former captain of the Shadhin Bangla football team, will be transported to Mohammedan Club on Tuesday morning, as announced in a press release. His funeral prayer, or namaz-e-janaza, will be conducted on the club premises at 10 am, allowing club officials to pay their respects to the late football icon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zakaria Pintoo passed away today (Monday) due to heart disease at a city hospital. He was 81 years old. Pintoo’s passing leaves behind a son, three daughters, and numerous relatives and well-wishers who mourn his loss. His death has been met with profound grief from various sports federations and organizations.

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) expressed their deep sorrow over Pintoo’s demise. BFF President Tabith Awal, along with senior vice presidents, vice-presidents, executive members, the general secretary, and other officials, conveyed their condolences. Similarly, the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), led by Presid
ent General Waker-Uz-Zaman and Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza, shared their heartfelt sympathies.

Alongside these organizations, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Bangladesh Handball Federation, Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, Bangladesh Archery Federation, Bangladesh Rugby Federation, and Bangladesh Sports Press Association have all voiced their shock and sadness over the death of the Shadhin Bangla football team captain.

Born in Naogaon on January 1, 1943, Pintoo had an illustrious football career, representing both the Pakistan national football team and the East Pakistan football team, often serving as captain for the latter. He played club football for Mohammedan, a beloved club in Bangladesh, for 14 consecutive years. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Pintoo was honored with the Independence Award in 1995 and the National Sports Awards in 1978.
