Pahela Baishakh Celebrated in Ctg Amid Festivity

Chattogram: Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1432, was celebrated in the port city and different upazilas in Chattogram and its adjacent districts today in a befitting manner. The district administration, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), various socio-cultural, professional and business organizations, NGOs, private bodies, and educational institutions organized programs to welcome the Bengali New Year.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the celebrations commenced with a colorful rally organized by the Chattogram district administration from the Chattogram Shilphokala Academy premises this morning. People from all walks of life, including government and private officials, participated in the ‘Baishakhi’ rally, donning traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners, while singing “Esho Hey Boishakh Esho Esho.”



Marking the occasion, a discussion meeting, prize distribution, and cultural program were held at the District Shilpakala Academy premises at 8:30 am. CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain joined the New Year celebration rally at Aparnacharan City Corporation Girls’ High School and College, extending greetings to the people. Teachers, students, officials, and employees from various educational institutions participated in the rally.



In another event, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ziauddin led a vibrant ‘Baishakhi’ rally, which concluded at the Shilpakala academy premises. The district administration also organized a discussion at Shilpakala academy around 8:30 am, where Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin addressed the function as the chief guest, with Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Farida Khanom presiding.



Additional dignitaries such as Additional DIG of Police (Crime Management) of Chattogram Range Wahidul Haque Chowdhury and Deputy Commissioner of CMP Nesar Uddin Ahmed addressed the event as special guests. District Ansar-VDP Commander Md. Abu Solaiman and District Women’s Affairs Deputy Director Atia Chowdhury also spoke at the event. The festivities concluded with the distribution of prizes among winners of drawing and writing competitions organized at the District Shishu Academy.
