Dhaka: Disaster management and relief adviser Faruk-E-Azam, Bir Protik, emphasized the need to avoid overlapping in planning for rural infrastructural development projects. Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a two-month-long workshop for Project Implementation Officers (PIOs) at the Mohakhali Disaster Management Directorate, he highlighted that these projects aim to improve the living standards of the general populace, particularly the poor.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faruk-E-Azam urged relevant authorities to exercise caution in formulating and executing rural projects to ensure that marginalized communities are not left behind. Addressing past allegations of irregularities in the procurement of relief goods, he noted that the directorate’s strategy of purchasing items such as blankets, corrugated iron sheets, and dry food at the district level is a measure to curb corruption.

Faruk-E-Azam called on the PIOs to overcome their negative reputations and commit to their duties with integrity, avoiding temptations and greed. He also mentioned the government’s plans to construct warehouses at upazila levels to store relief goods, enhancing the efficiency of distribution efforts.

The event was chaired by Rezwanur Rahman, Director General of the Disaster Management and Relief Directorate, with disaster management and relief ministry secretary Mustafizur Rahman and other senior officials in attendance.
