Dhaka: The newly recruited 3,263 doctors and dentists today joined their new jobs through the 48th Special Bangladesh Civil Service (Health) exam, officials said here today. Health ministry officials reported that 2,984 of the recruits joined as assistant medical surgeons and 279 as assistant dental surgeons following the exams conducted by Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Health Services Division of the ministry organized a function at Shaheed Abu Sayeed International Convention Center of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) to mark the joining ceremony. The event was attended by Health and Family Welfare Adviser Nurjahan Begum and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Md Sayedur Rahman.
Rahman addressed the ceremony, describing the recruitment of a large number of doctors in a short period as a significant event. He acknowledged the interim government of Nobel Peace Prize winner Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus for its role in creating the posts, managing the recruitment process, and facilitating the conscription of the doctors. Rahman expressed hope that the newly appointed doctors would provide healthcare services to the marginalized population at the grassroots level.
The special assistant also noted that the humanitarian aspect was being considered in the posting process, with efforts made to appoint married couples in the same area. Health Secretary Md Saidur Rahman and Directorate General of Health Services chief Professor Dr. Abu Zafar were also present at the event.
