Chattogram: Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced that legal measures will be implemented against any attempts to disrupt internet services during the election period. Responding to questions from journalists after a meeting with administrative and law enforcement officers from various levels of Chattogram Division at the city’s World Trade Center, Jahangir Alam emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining open internet access during elections.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir Alam assured that the army, navy, and air force will be deployed to address the geographical challenges of Chattogram, which includes hills, plains, and coastal areas, ensuring security during the elections. He stressed the importance of a free press, urging journalists to work independently and present the truth for the public to receive accurate information.
The Home Adviser highlighted the past constraints on media and social media, which were often manipulated or controlled. He expressed confidence in the current preparations by the administration and law enforcement agencies, stating that their readiness promises a fair and festive election process.
He further elaborated that the law enforcement agencies, including the army, have made thorough preparations in Chattogram to ensure smooth elections. Jahangir Alam expressed satisfaction with these preparations, underscoring that if operations continue as planned, the elections will be conducted fairly, festively, and impartially.
The meeting was attended by notable officials including Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah, and DIG of Chattogram Range Md. Ahsan Habib Palash, among others.
